Inspiring Black Boys from the Classroom to the Boardroom

Black history is still in the making.

A metro Atlanta Black male teacher who inspired, engaged and empowered his students is making history!

Everton Blair was recently sworn in as the first African-American to serve on the Gwinnett County Board of Education.

He’s been changing the game in education before he became a school board member.

Resembling the A Different World Character, Professor Dwayne Wayne, Everton says to Black boys that they can teach Math and make history too!

A LOT OF OUR BLACK STUDENTS AREN’T EMPOWERED OR MOTIVATED IN SCHOOL.

The lack of self motivation in Black students is not uncommon.

Especially in students who are marginalized and stereotyped.

On average, Black boys are told more negative things about them than positive.

There are many Black boys who go through their entire academic experience not being motivated at all.

As a Board, Everton will most certainly impact the development and implementation of policies that support the student engagement!

More funding for these initiatives begins with policy development.

I look forward to seeing changes in GPCS policies around discipline, special education and student support services.
